Dublin2020 Potting Shed

“Dublin2020 is Dublin’s Bid to host the European Capital of Culture in 2020. We want the whole city to bid, bringing together all our values, all our people and all our resources. We want to know what has added value to your life and how you would add value to Dublin and Europe.”

This September Dublin2020 and The Potting Shed Dublin teamed up to address one of the many questions they have asked themselves for this city wide bid:

“How can we use the potential technologies of the future to maximise the participation of all Dublin’s citizens, from Shankill to Skerries, culturally and socially in their city and their Europe, in 2020″

Its a question about how to engage the people and towns of Dublin, near and far, with their city and culture through technologies that exist and technologies that could exist in the year 2020.

This was a fantastic discussion with plenty of scope to come up with weird and wonderful ideas for our city and the wider European community!

We met at Facebook Dublin HQ in Grand Canal Dock (who kindly fed and housed us!) and began brainstorming about how we would connect the people in the connected city of the future. There were self driving homework club history car tours, giant thought bubbles projected across North and South Dublin, “the city’s heart beat” health competitions, Liffey video games, cultural Leap Cards, and virtual reality class trips to the operas of Europe…. to name but a few!

It was a great evening in a superb venue with lots of new faces!
